01Bahman with an H (14', Fiction) 2025

A wayward outcast goes from zero to hero after learning about a mysterious disappearance.

Statement
Bahman with an ‘H’ is a riff on the archetypal father-son story. With it I reflect on the profound impact of fatherhood, which drastically reshaped my life into distinct 'before' and 'after' phases. This transformation parallels the journey of Bahman, the protagonist, whose life is similarly altered by the enigmatic arrival of a child. The event provides Bahman with an escape hatch from his oppressive, mundane existence at the supermarket, illuminating a pathway away from obscurity towards recognition. But to get there he must confront his demons, crossing a dark corridor that epitomizes his deepest fears, and learn to view his past wounds not as scars, but as gateways to enlightenment. This acceptance sparks a journey of self-discovery and empowerment that echoes my own experiences with fatherhood.

Statement
With Sunday, July 31st I wanted to explore how a seemingly insignificant misstep could culminate in a powerful declaration of selfhood. To that end, I drew on my fraught relationship with my father and waded into uncomfortable territory. The film became a meditation on reconciliation.
